Tuesday, 26 August 2008 19:59

Apocalypse Cult Media LogoLet's start with the literal definition:

Apocalypse (Greek: Ἀποκάλυψις Apokálypsis; "lifting of the veil"), is a term applied to the disclosure to certain privileged persons of something hidden from the majority of humankind.

[From Wikipedia]

And yes, we are total weirdos that you likely wouldn't approach on the street.

What we do:

We are a publishing collective running on a 100% D.I.Y. non-profit (actually anti-profit) model, producing and developing our members' feats of art, design, publishing, writing, and whatever else manifests.

OUR HISTORY:

We started as a small cadre of squatters, survivalists, and nomads that have been working together in our various capacities for more than a decade. As we all struggled through our creative endeavors alone, someone got smart and found a way for us all to benefit by working together, as many of us had already been doing. Imagine that!

So welcome, our new focus is on having an internet presence, so feel free to look around. We're just getting started here in cyberspace, so bear with us through the bugs and dust.

Sins of the State

New Orleans in the Wake of Katrina

Cover of Sins of the State: New Orleans in the Wake of Katrina

A richly illustrated and stirring account of the government's failures unto the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Contains a wealth of more than 150 photographs detailing this distinctly American tragedy.

From the back cover:

Six months after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, Neil Wolfe worked his way across the country to New Orleans, searching for the truth behind conflicting news stories coming out of the mainstream media.

Armed with his camera, he dispatched a series of photos essays from the ground, collected here and adapted to print form for the first time.

This 104 page photo-documentary is a candid and troubling look at the government's repeated and ongoing failure to respond to this crisis, and what that means to the rest of the country.

Straightforward and to the point, it is a glimpse at the present state of the city of New Orleans, and how it serves as a salient model of the entire American nation.

The second edition of Sins of the State is coming out soon! The limited first edition is still available in print form, get it while you still can!

Also to celebrate the release of the second edition, we're offering a sneak preview of it in E-Book form for the super-low price of $2.95! (Limited time)

Year of the Caribou

Our latest partnership promotion!

(In association with Northern Light Legacy)

Year of the Caribou is a feature-length film that captures the magnificent beauty of the arctic wilderness and documents the Alaska Brooks Range wilderness in a way few films can – through the eyes of a family immersed in wilderness isolation for nearly two decades. An earlier edition of Year of the Caribou was shown by the Meaders throughout the country in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s, inspiring a generation in search of an alternative way of life. In the ’80’s the film was distributed by the Cannon Corporation, both nationally and internationally, under the title, The Alaska Wilderness Adventure.

Northern Light Legacy

In 2002 the Meader family regained the rights to Year of the Caribou and soon after Elaine, Heather and Dawn began showing the film and speaking about the past, the present, and the importance of wilderness preservation.

Promotions in Partnership
Saturday, 23 August 2008 04:51

We've partnered up with some friends and associates in the media world to do some cross-promotion for everyone's benefit. Our Partnership Promotions are works by associated individuals that haven't been directly released by Apocalypse Cult Media. Our list will be ever-expanding, but will always remain limited to those projects produced with the same DIY ethos we were founded on.

The first of these joint-ventures is Flowers in the Sidewak: Companions in Chaos

Cover of Flowers in the Sidewalk - Companions in Chaos

This one's a real gem - the true story of the North Bay underground punk scene in the early nineties, depicted through individual stories, art, and other primary sources of the time, all surrounding the legendary 714 Humboldt House of Santa Rosa, California.

Compiled by Heather Meader-McCausland and Adam La Belle.
